So the day after I spent 12 hours trying to preorder my iPhone online for release day delivery, my dad and I disastrously changed our AT&T family plan from being in my name with my social security number to his name with his social security number.
Now Apple & AT&T can’t find our account to verify that I’m eligible for a new iPhone because they verify based on phone number, zipcode, and last four digits of the social security number on the account.
We waited in line until the local store closed on release day and still didn’t get to the front. Apple sent me an email that they had finally sorted out my order and would be shipping it soon so we didn’t go back Friday.
Apparently that was another mistake because a week later, my online order is back to on hold after going back and forth between “not yet shipped” and “prepared for shipment” daily. Again Apple is saying that there is a problem with my AT&T account when the fact is that there is no problem, they’re just looking in the wrong place even after I told them the new info.
So now I’ve canceled my lost cause online order and am waiting for the local store to have one in stock for me. Unfortunately they couldn’t even give me a ballpark estimate of when that would be. (But wait, dad just texted me that they just got one of the two he requested in stock for him from when he waited in line the first day so maybe today is finally the day I’ll get my iPhone that was supposed to be delivered last Thursday.)
AT&T has messed up the iPhone order process so bad. I think I’d actually rather pay a couple hundred more like with the original iPhone than have to mess with AT&T “approving” that I can get a new phone.

Oh NO! That is so terrible. Did you get it yet? My husband and I unfortunately waited around until after the first day and now it’s almost impossible to find one. He decided he HAD to have one on the day after the release. Of course, none to be found. I guess we may have to try to order. I sure hope you’ve got your awesome new iPhone now!!

Oh that’s awful. I’m sorry. I love my iPhone so much and I’m scared to change anything. It’s not so much loyalty but fear that I won’t have unlimited data and would have to say goodbye streaming netflix commutes.
