This article about How Gen Y Navigates Time – and Life really struck a chord with me:
Millennials tend to have a carpe diem philosophy (even if many weren’t born when Dead Poets Society first came out). They want it all, and they want it now.
While detractors call this “entitlement,” I sometimes admire Millennials’ belief that “paying one’s dues” is a waste of time.
I’ve had a terrible, terrible time staying on budget this past year and I’ve dipped into my savings all but one month so far in 2011. And I know why. Post cancer I’ve been a little too intense on the want it all, want it now front. I’ve got shocked a little bit too far into a reality where there might not always be a later. I’m scared of wasted time and wasted opportunity.
One of my lift list goals that I hope to accomplish in 2012 is to stay on budget every month of the year (with the only, only special outside of budget spending allowed being wedding and honeymoon expenses). Maybe that’ll get my back in practice so that in 2013 I can even stay on budget every month without any special exceptions.

I’d call it entitlement if the person in question doesn’t believe in doing the work at a high standard but still expects the same quality reward as the people who do perform at that level. Of course, that’s just from a management perspective.
From a life perspective, I absolutely want it all soon – based on the strength of my efforts and strategic thinking I hope.
