And the reason why is a none too happy one.
Some time in recent months, Netflix added a streaming only plan. And then they increased the rates on the one DVD plan. I decided it was worth a dollar or two a month to keep the DVD option available.
In December I got a DVD. And it took me until March to watch it. It had 20 minutes of ads and previews I couldn’t skip on it and I was irritated. After I watched it, I sent it back and they sent me another DVD.
That DVD, which I didn’t get around to watching until April had 30 minutes of ads and previews I couldn’t skip on it.
I struggle to find time to watch the DVDs in the first place. When I finally get around to putting the DVD in the DVD player I want to watch the movie. I don’t have half an hour to waste watching ads I’m not interested in for each DVD I rent.
So I switched my plan from the $9.99 one DVD a month plan to the $7.99 streaming only plan because I don’t want to pay $2 a month to be forced to watch ads.

Wow I didn’t know about the ads. Lately I’ve been getting TV shows and I haven’t noticed the ads. But I do keep the DVDs for much longer than anticipated. I have been using Redbox though. A buck a night… can’t beat that!
the unbearable ads were both on movies and i asked my mom about it and she’s been getting them on her dvds too. maybe they’re not on tv shows though. i got them on valentine’s day and then life as we know it.
Thanks for posting this, we’ve been debating adding the $2 for dvds and that just settled it!
