I’m not making New Year’s resolutions this year because a) I never stick to them and b) I like having room to let things change and evolve.

So inspired by this post at Be More with Less, this is my list of things I’d love to do in 2012 that is subject to adjustment throughout the year.

  1. Try yoga again.
  2. Go on vacation and completely unplug (this is a must for my honeymoon in August but my fiance and I will probably do a long weekend in the spring for me to practice).
  3. Read a book a week or more.
  4. Walk Lucky more. Get my fiance to go with us more of those times.
  5. Make homemade bread every week.
  6. Focus on quality over quantity. In how I spend my time and my money.
  7. Declutter something every day. Regularly list those items on eBay or donate to Goodwill (in which case be sure to get a tax receipt).
  8. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Ideally at least one with each meal.

Are you making New Year’s resolutions or doing any other sort of goal setting right now? Tell me about it or link me to a post you’ve written on the topic.

My fiance has been in Oklahoma for job training for almost seven weeks now. Next week he’ll finally be done and ready to drive home.

I’ll be flying to Albuquerque late Friday night to meet up with him. Saturday we’ll drive to Las Vegas and Sunday we’ll drive home to the Bay Area.

So it was time to load up my iPad with a variety of books for the Kindle for iPad app.

I picked the books to buy by sorting my Goodreads “to get” list by average rating with the highest rating at the top and working my way down picking books that struck my fancy. This is what I ended up with:

  1. The Gatecrasher by Madeleine Wickham
  2. Digital Fortress by Dan Brown
  3. Secrets of a Shoe Addict by Beth Harbison
  4. Supreme Courtship by Christopher Buckley
  5. World of Warcraft: Arthas by Christie Golden (yes, I’m enough of a nerd to want to read books based on a video game)

These books should make for plenty of variety and light reading while waiting in airports, on the plane, and in the car for a good 16 hours of driving.

What are your next five books?

Over the next couple weeks I’ll be sharing my favorite things from 2010. These items weren’t necessarily new in 2010 but they were either new to me, extra awesome this year, or on my own holiday shopping list or wish list. The lists will be grouped by different personality traits I would use to describe myself so that you can use them as holiday gift inspiration as well.

December 2, 2009 I was told I had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. A year later I’m cancer free and feeling better than ever.

If you have a cancer survivor in your life, here are a few things that helped me through the year:

  • Amazon Prime because sometimes you know you need something but you just don’t have it in you to go to the store
  • Everything Changes: The Insider’s Guide to Cancer in Your 20s and 30s
  • Dear Jack
  • Rogaine for Women Hair Regrowth Treatment, Regular Strength Unscented, 2-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 3)
  • Wii, Wii Fit Plus with Balance Board, and EA Sports Active to keep active while on disability leave
  • Yoga class and a yoga mat

And a few things that I know have helped my friends and readers who’ve experienced other types of cancer:

  • Woman to Woman: A Handbook for Women Newly Diagnosed with Breast Cancer
  • After Breast Cancer: A Common-Sense Guide to Life After Treatment
