photography

I did much better at taking more variety of photos this past month but I still didn’t reach the one a day goal. August is going to be a test as I’m going on two trips, BlogHer ’11 and then Kauai, and I’m planning on making a photo book of my Kauai trip so I’ll need a ton of photos. I definitely need to average more than one photo a day in August.

This giveaway has now ended. The winners are #4 Kim, #9 Marisol, #14 Kim, #17 Beth, #23 Eugenie, #26 Stephanie Gimlin, #27 Lala R, #32 Jl Johnson, #35 Colleen, and #45 Brynn.

Wedding planning thoughts are swirling in my head now that we’re finally getting closer and it’s getting time to actually plan.

In just one month, we’ll be in Hawaii meeting with the wedding planner, selecting a ceremony location, finalizing a date, testing out the resort’s salon, attending a luau to see if it’s the right choice for our rehearsal dinner, and having dinner at the restaurant we’d like to have everyone join us at after the ceremony.

Photography is another very important element that we need to consider. My mom, my brother, and many other family members are very talented photographers. I don’t want them to miss important moments because they’re busy photographing so it’s nice that the wedding package we’re looking at also includes photography but I think my family can do a much better job of capturing the experience beyond just the wedding ceremony and in a candid and meaningful style.

Normally I just look at and use my photos on the computer but I want to have a wedding photo album. I’m not big on printed photos, in fact I don’t think I’ve printed a photo since at least 2008. I also don’t want to spend a ton on having the photographer create and provide the photo album.

And then Shutterfly emailed me to find out if I’d like to create a free photo book for myself and blog about it. And the timing was perfect.

When we go to Kauai next month, I’m going to take a zillion vacation photos with my iPhone and then create a photo book to see how it comes out and see if I like it enough to do my wedding album with Shutterfly.

So that June iPhone photo challenge? Well it didn’t quite go as well as I had hoped. And it’s my fault because I only took pictures 5 out of 30 days and I know I can do better than that. And I also mainly took pretty bad photos of my dog. So in July I promise to do better and take more photos of more different things. But for the sake of accountability, here’s what I shot in June.

June iPhone Photo Challenge Results

{ 3 comments }

I can’t believe May is almost over and I’m already gearing up for June.

My photography hobby has fallen by the wayside since I started working full time five years ago and it’s time to pick it back up again. Before I started working, I was out and about in the natural light most days and averaging hundreds of photos in a normal day first with a point and shoot and later with my DSLR. Now I’ve taken only a couple hundred photos total in the past year all with my iPhone.

While browsing Pinterest (my new favorite time waster), I’ve run across an assortment of intriguing photography challenges: 10 can’t miss photos to take each month, 30 day photo fun, and 30 day photography challenge.

Since I slacked off with my real cameras and always have my iPhone with me now, I’m going to explore what types of awesome photos it can take with it (the HDR feature on the iPhone 4 produces some pretty amazing shots even in poor conditions and it’s summer which means natural light should be abundant). I’ll try to get at least one photo that fits at least one of the challenges each day in June and I’ll report back at the end of the month if I’ve gotten good results.

Have you ever done a photo challenge? Do you find yourself taking more photos with your phone than any other camera?
