Shortly after I started my personal training sessions I decided to get a FitBit which is a feature rich pedometer.
It counts all of my steps during the day, it tracks my movement during my sleep at night, and it lets me easily identify which periods of steps during the day were other more vigorous excessive sessions. It’s data syncs wirelessly and gets uploaded online where I can also track what I eat and set assorted goals and then it creates beautiful, beautiful reports for me.
Here’s an example of today’s report so far (click on the image to make it bigger):
In the past, I’d always been confused on how to count my steps when some of them were during other more intense exercises and how to figure out how much I should eat when I exercised different amounts on different days. I’m really thrilled with the FitBit because it’s the first tracking system I’ve used that integrates everything in a way that helps me reach my goals.
What tools do you use to track your exercise and eating? If you also have a FitBit, you can add me as a friend.

I love the FitBit! I had used a BodyMedia monitor for a little while, but had problems with it, so I switched to the FitBit. Recently, I pitted the two against each other and the FitBit came out on top (I wrote about it on my other blog: http://defluffing.blogspot.com)
I am interested in getting one of these – I especially like the sleep feature! Do you find it easy to wear on a daily basis?
It’s super easy to wear daily. One reason I picked the FitBit over other similar products it’s because it’s so discrete and easy to clip onto your waist band (I know other people wear them on their bras and I tried that but it wasn’t comfortable for me.
So glad that you are enjoying it. This is one of my rewards & I am working on achieving it because I want to start tracking more accurately. Did you see the Up by Jawbone bracelet? Similar functionality to the Fitbit. Same price as well.
To track my workouts I use Runkeeper & MyFitnessPal and for food I use the WW app.
I did see the Jawbone bracelet but I don’t think it really integrates food tracking as well. It’s software lets you take pictures of your food but doesn’t have calorie tracking and the part of the FitBit interface that’s really helping me finally lose weight after being on a plateau for a long, long time is the calorie counting in combo with it’s adding calories to my daily goal as I move more. There are other parts of the Jawbone bracelet that I like better like vibrating reminders but I don’t think that’d help me reach my goals as much.
This looks really interesting. I have been trying a few different things to get my fitness and weight level a bit healthier and this actually looks like something I could get and stay into. Any idea where I could buy one of these? I live in Canada. And about how much does it cost, a ball-park figure?
It’s $99 US and you can order from FitBit.com but I got mine at 24 hour fitness and I know Best Buy and REI are also retailers.
