The Ultimate “Bang for Swagbucks” Chart

So it’s approximately 4am as I’m writing this and I’m suffering from excruciating insomnia. I was laying in bed thinking about Swagbucks and I got to thinking that they only allow you to redeem your points for 5 of the same prize each month and I expect I’ll be getting 5 $5 Amazon.com giftcards this month (which are the best value giftcards available) so what will I get next?

Swagbucks is a search engine. As you search you earn points. Points can be redeemed for prizes starting at 450 points for a $5 Amazon.com giftcard (which took me about 1 month to accumulate when I first started in May and I’ve gotten more points progressively faster each month since).

And thus was born my new “Bang for Swagbucks” chart. I took a look at all the giftcards I was interested in and made a little Excel spreadsheet to calculate how much dollar value you got per Swagbucks points and then sorted it by best value. And now I’m sharing it with you.

Prize Dollar Value Swagbucks Cost Bang for Swagbucks
Amazon.com $5 450 9
Target $20 2350 11.75
Amazon.com $50 5900 11.8
iTunes $15 1850 12.33
Apple $300 37000 12.33
Amazon.com $25 3150 12.6
Macy’s $25 3200 12.8
Starbucks $10 1300 13
Paypal $5 700 14
Sephora $50 9750 19.5

So this chart gives you a handy dandy list that you can just work down as you redeem your Swagbucks. I know some other people who are fans of the Starbucks and Paypal prizes (probably because if we sorted by how many points they cost they’d come in next) but they’re really not such a good value compared to a Target or iTunes giftcard and while I love Sephora, it’s just not worth redeeming Swagbucks for Sephora giftcards.

If you are not already a member of Swagbucks, I highly recommend you sign up now, I’m earning more than $25 in free giftcards each month. If you are already a member, what do you like to get with your Swagbucks?

I <3 Swagbucks! I have gotten 5 $5 Amazon gift cards in December, it was very nice! Recently I just won a Twitter Tuesday award which awarded me with 50 Swagbucks and I've gotten a few new friends to join this month as well. With that, the next prize I am redeeming is the $50 Southwest gift card because I haev tons of weddings to attend this year! It costs 570 SB, which gives you a Bang for Swagbucks of 11.4!! That would make it the second best thing on your chart! =) I'm still about 200 Swagbucks away from it… but I hope I can get that in the next few weeks!

Awesome. I’ve always wondered that but never took the time to figure it out. Unfortunately, I’m pretty far away from getting 5 Amazon gift cards in a month. I think I’ve only gotten a max of 2. But I’ve just recently become more serious about it.

Great post! I actually always get the paypal gc even though it’s quite the best value because if it goes into my checking account I know it will go toward budgeted items, but if I get a gc to say Amazon, I’ll probably buy extras. Maybe someday when I have more discipline… :)
