Just as I’m already complaining about the data plan situation for the iPhone/iPad, AT&T gives me even more to complain about. They’re taking away the unlimited option completely.
The new highest level plan will cost you $25 a month ($5 a month less than the old unlimited plan) and give you a maximum of 2GB of data network usage per month. You also now have an option for a $15 plan that gives you 200MB of data per month. These plan rates apply to the iPhone and the iPad but you still need a separate plan for each.
So, first thing I want to know after my initial “ew, lame” response is how do these new plans fit with my actual data usage?
If you go to Settings > General > Usage you can see your own usage statistics.
My stats currently indicate that I’ve used a total of about 1.2GB data and I’m assuming that’s since I got this phone about a year and a half ago. I’m going to be reseting the stats today so I can get stats that I’m sure are for a one month period for more accurate comparison.
Based on my own usage statistics at this time, I can tell the $15 plan wouldn’t work for me (I’m using approximately 500MB a month) but my needs would still fit well within the 2GB a month limit.
I’ll reset my statistics so I can see a whole month but if my estimations are right, I should easily be able to go with the new $25 plan and save $5 a month.

I was so annoyed when I read the news that they weren’t going to be offering the unlimited plan but since we are grandfathered in, it won’t really affect us. But I may switch to the 2gb plan. I also just recently lowered my sms from unlimited to 200 which reduces my phone bill by $15.
i’m on a family plan and my sister uses about a million text messages a month so we have the unlimited family plan texting which is only $5 a month more than unlimited texting for just one line.
I am planning to change to an iPhone in the next month. Thanks for explaining the new AT&T data plan. It was a bit confusing to me.
I am visiting from the Lady BLoggers Society Tea Party. You have a really nice site. I love the color scheme and design.
